Located at the base of the Iron Mountains along their southern slopes, Grimgalad is surrounded by rugged terrain and imposing cliffs. The Svarta Vidhr blossoms from its southern gates, providing natural defenses against invaders. The city is built on a series of flattened mountaintops that offer a commanding view of the surrounding lands.
¶ The Season Locking Etheric Weave
The ancient geomancers of Grimgalad were Alfarii masters of the Ether who blended intricate stonecraft with an arcane understanding of the natural world. Their season fixing influence is a high level enchantment that manipulates local etherics to sustain a specific climate. In Grimgalad, this climate is perpetual autumn.
This enchantment functions through a network of potent runes connected in an etheric grid that creates a harmonic field. Keystone runic complexes buried around the city's perimeter conduct geomantic energies and maintain the climate. The network operates like a self sustaining power grid, drawing on ambient ether to renew the enchantments.
Localized runic fields are possible. Smaller independent grids can create climates between one and five miles in diameter. These micro climates require precise attunement to prevent etheric bleed or environmental stress.

The history of Grimgalad is one of resilience and determination. Founded by an Alfarii miner seeking a simple life near his work, the settlement grew rapidly. The village that once blocked the pass through the Iron Mountains became a fortified city that repelled invasions and maintained sovereignty through diplomacy and military strength.

The mining village that would become Grimgalad was founded by ancient Alfarii. At this point in history, Alfarii and Eldarii were already separate species, though their languages remained mutually intelligible.

The village prospered and grew into a small city. The first defenses were raised against the encroaching forest.
¶ 7,500 to 6,000 Years Ago
Powerful Alfarii Ether Weavers discovered Ether Shaping for the first time in Grimgalad. Gigantic automata were crafted to strip away mountaintops and expand the city onto a large plateau shaped in tandem with their machines. This era resulted in the name change to Grimgalad and established its reputation as an Alfarii stronghold known for advanced works of artifice.
